JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA - Welcome to Jeddah and today we’re going on a food tour, where the main event is going to be a whole lamb roasted for 5 hours over fire, basted with its own oil, and then eaten with honey. An absolutely incredible lamb experience in Saudi Arabia!

To begin the day, there’s nothing better to eat than ful, mashed fava beans, but at this breakfast restaurant in Jeddah they specialize in smoked ful, when some ghee is burned on an onion to give the ful a lovely smokiness.
We then headed to a nice restaurant to try traditional Jeddah style breakfast, a meal that would typically be eaten on special occasions. The variety and color were beautiful!

Chef cooked the lamb for 4 - 5 hours over a wood fire, continually rotating it and basting it in lamb oil. It’s the most golden crispy lamb I’ve ever had and eaten dipped into honey. We also tried quite a few other lamb dishes, all the lamb coming from their own farm!
Later in the evening we tried a nostalgic fries stall with all sorts of different sauce that you put on, and my personal favorite - chickpeas!

Hey everyone hope you're having an amazing day! It's Mark Wiens I'm in Jeddah Saudi Arabia Today we are gonna be eating at a number of different places. We're gonna have some delicious breakfast, but the main event is that we are gonna go to a place that specializes in a special type of white lamb. This is the first time I've learned surgical gloves to eat lamb. We're gonna eat a whole lamb for lunch.

That's going to be one of the ultimate dishes of the day, but it's gonna be a lot of delicious food local Saudi Arabian Food in Jetta today and I'm gonna share all of the food, all of the dishes. You're not going to want to miss anything coming up right now in this video. Foreign good Morning from Jeddah and I'm very happy to be in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but I just want to let you know the smoked ghost pepper by Kiva and Mark Wiens is available. I'll have the link where you can buy it in the description box below, but it's my favorite all-purpose seasoning.

I Use it on just about everything and I always travel with it. We are starting today with breakfast. It's a very traditional dish, but kind of a unique version of that dish and maybe a modern twist. Oh man, I Can smell the aroma of the fool as soon as I step inside of here.

Fool is I mean one of the greatest breakfasts that you'll eat in this entire region in Saudi Arabia And it's fava beans, but we're eating a unique version of them here at this place today. Okay, so he dishes out the pool from the big container which has just been slow cooked probably overnight until it's just like disintegrating. Fava beans I love wool and then over on the other side of this kitchen just frying up some I think it's way impossibly and then they're making the fresh bread over here. One of the Specialties here is smoked wool and so they take out the full.

The Baba beans dresses it like normal with a Sprinkle of spices oil but then they bring it to your table, floats an onion on the surface, adds on some oil and then puts a little hot coal Ember into the into that onion and so it just starts to hiss and smoke. puts the lid on that's going to smoke it out and then we're gonna. We're about to open the lids and eat it. It's not yellow, all right.

Here we go. It smells so good it smells for me. If it smells it smells incredible. that's gonna give it an extra fragrance.

from the typical spread with sesame seeds, black seeds, fresh bread. oh it's so fluffy too. Take everything here we go. Smoke Tool Oh wow.

it's so rich and Smoky and creamy. I Think the ghee which has been like kind of smoke that's like fats so it just releases that flavor into the beans makes it so rich. Yes that's the spirit. That's actually okay.

We have another dish to try. um oh that's that is really good. It's like not overly sweet because I think it's just that mild dates which I'm giving it that sweetness I Love the stickiness of it and then you've got the cream and the cheese which is not overpowered. Well, that's sounds like an interesting combination, but it feels really really good.
This is egg and tomato. Yeah yeah, Oh oh the green chili man. I Love pool. We're moving on to breakfast number two.

Uh, now we're gonna have it's a celebration breakfast here in the western side, we usually serve the people in the morning. this kind of breakfast when we have a celebration. For example, read: wedding or engagement or any happy occasion. Any happy occasion In the early morning we eat this breakfast celebration breakfast that we're gonna eat next.

Okay okay so one of the cool things that we're trying here is smoked cups with water and so they take the cups they they burn the Arabic gum you pour the water in and you you try that water without a room. Really? Smoky Aroma of that of that smoked Arabic gum which is a sap from a tree. Quite an incredible spread of food and such a diversity. So many different colors, spicy cheese, so really you can kind of just choose different dishes that you wanna.

So after the sweetness let's go for some of those. Then we have some pretty like fancy drinks as well. A little bit sweet but really good and taste of Flavor of the basil. Maybe it's like a minty flavor too.

it has like a pumpkin flavored to it. Maybe that's what the Orange is. this is we call it. it's kind of Castle Island It's a crispy bread with banana.

the bird is still crispy then with like melted banana sauce. Well Falafel salad is great. Oh Lamb with eggs. Celebration breakfast.

That was actually a really good breakfast. Really nice. kind of like a elegant breakfast. A really nice place.

We're on our way that we've had two breakfasts now we're on our way for the main event of the day, the whole lamb. Very nice to meet you Sean Thank you thank you thank you! Nice to meet you too. Welcome to Saudi Arabia Thank you very much Thank you very much very happy to be here! Yeah! so for lunch today we are at Harid Restaurant. We arrived here.

This is where we're going to be eating a whole lamb and we're immediately heading back to the kitchen to see the lamb which is being roasted. That smells incredible with charcoal. How long does the lamb roast between photos? It's a small lamb. It's around three and six months.

Thank you. Every maybe 30 minutes we have to add the ghee to get the alarm. Soft and more crunchy. If you can't see a stupid crunchy and nice color.

What a technique! So all the the lamb fat drippings are gathered into a like a tea kettle and then re-poured onto the lamb every 30 minutes or so during the roasting process to keep it hydrated and crispy. What a technique! So the oil just keeps being absorbed into the meat, reabsorbed and you can just just slow roast for four to five hours just continually rotating with those burning logs skin getting crispier and crispier. But Chef is going to grab a piece right off the limb for a taste test real fast. All that crispy bit.
Oh look at how juicy it is. Oh and dip into honey. dipped it into honey so that would be the sauce while it's just dripping and oozing. Um that is so much honey and lamb all in your mouth at the same time.

Oh wow, that is so tender. so much flavor, the crispiness. Wow. Next dish that Chef is going to make is the Lamb head which has been pre-boiled and then all the meat has been scraped off the head and he's gonna show us this recipe with the lamb head.

Foreign. Oh just let the hole head in your mouth at once. It's so good because it's been boiled so it's so tender. Then with that squeezed up lemon juice Yes! and the high fire? Yes so it stays like boiling hot.

I'm not home. Oh thank you. It's very nice. Let's cook around every three hours in the charcoal.

Oh you don't need teeth for that. Yeah, chew it with your tongue. it's just completely dissolves in your mouth. So Chef was just mentioning that Harid which is the name of the restaurant is that's a type of limb.

it's the special the good lamp here in the Saudi Arabia So that's the baby land and it's also one of the best qualities of them in Saudi Arabia Yes Okay oh and that's what the name of the restaurant is. So everything is dedicated to lamb here and they have their own Farm where they raise their own lands as well and so they it's it's head to tail. I mean they eat everything. Cook everything from the liver to the kidneys to the head to the whole body.

Foreign. so much flavor. Yeah you actually taste the like herbs that the Lambic eating. Yeah oh man.

one more bite of the liver. oh wow. Electricity melt in your mouth juicy, so much flavor and such a like a clean taste. the lamb head now we have oilhead.

it's uh this one is different than yesterday. it's not Mandi with some lemon it's uh it's sour, a little bit and salty so I hope you like it. Come again. Okay so it's all the parts of the head just like boiled with lemon and garlic.

Yes oh and caramelizes on that clay clay pan? That's one is crazy. It's so melted in your mouth because it's just so so tender from being boiled. yes and then re-cooked and then put in that clay pot. Melt in your mouth.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes yes Thank you Thank you. The beauty about this. It's only salt and pepper and there is also something you have to try it. It's the fat.

This is the fat. You have to eat the fat. All right. It's sweet.

It's just so naturally sweet. Whoa. So amazing. Yeah, now the most important bites.

It's the facts. So that's just pure lamb. Baby lamb fat. Okay, now we're gonna eat the fat that is so jiggly, so jiggly.

So first time you eat so much flavor. Oh I have a sauce too for my next bite. Oh it's kind of like a shower shower chili sauce very good and then chase that with one of the charred peppers. Good one.
it will not be that much spicy. Mm-hmm this is meat mixed with vegetables in a stir fry pan. Okay, let's go in. bread, butterfly scoop going and boiling.

Peppers Whoa. see peppers tomatoes. Oh it's just boiling in its own fat. You have to smell it before you eat.

Smell the meat with the spices. Oh wow yeah what's up like Flavor of the cumin? The green peppers. Oh oh it's so good. Oh that's boiling.

Oh that's incredible. Oh thank you. this is for you. Thank you! We usually eat with when you eat Meats lemon.

It has to be here. Oh thank you. try it out. Is it like a run? Iran Okay, okay.

like a yogurt? Yeah. Buttermilker? Yes. So we gotta try this drink. Like a buttermilk Maybe a spices inside? Yes he has some spices.

Very creamy, refreshing, and a little bit of a herbal taste to it. Like a coriander kind of taste to it. Cool. Let's open that.

Whoa. The meat. Baked potatoes. You want to go in for this? Yeah.

Ready? Yeah. this is very light. you know you can see and it's absorbed that Aroma of the honey as well. It's very tender.

see very tender. Whoa. I'm very excited to try it. So buttery, so creamy yellow.

Whoa. It's So Buttery nutty, right? It's nutty. Ah yeah, that's insane flavor that is so so rich and creamy and garlicky. And then you taste the the coriander, the onions in there.

Um, what is this? Okay and then we have another dish. Now we have the city. This is rice cooking the chicken or beef broth. Then in the end we add some milk in it.

Oh so that's why it looks like a pork. Yeah, Okay, so this is the League This is some ghee in the top. You eat it with the parsley salsa. Okay, here we go.

Yes, All right. So you want to get some of the chicken too? Yeah and the chicken is stuff. There's onions on the inside, there's oh, it's so tender, very tender. Oh wow.

very creamy. Let's go. that's crazy. so premium.

Uh I kind of dissolve it in your mouth and the chicken is unbelievably tender. and I like it with that shower, coriander and green chili sauce. Oh it's really good. Really warming.

Usually we eat this in Winter it is like that. Kind of like yes, the type of dish that just like warms you from your stomach all the way. Yeah when winter is coming we eat salad because it will warm everybody. Yes, you are absolutely like yeah.

Okay here it comes. Whoa. Fire oranges, lamb fat. how to enter.

Is it all right? Okay, okay okay now it's your turn. Turn on the camera. You have to eat it. You have to eat it.

This is baby. Harry with honey. Now you're gonna eat it. Oh I've never had so much honey and lamb in my mouth.

Crispy and sweet that melts in your mouth. Oh thank you. Oh oh chef. that is insane.

It's like lamb candy. Yes Yes! I'm dripping and lamb and honey. oh my. God it's getting serious Now we're putting on gloves.
Oh oh that's it. This is Regalback if we go back. Wow, that is unbelievable. The lamb, The honey? Yes! Welcome welcome to Saudi Arabia Crispy sweet lemon honey.

the neck meat You need to take the skin out with a little bit of meat, then a crisp it in your mouth. huh? Mmm it's so crispy. Yes yes and so tender and so milky it is. Wow.

Whoa. I'm gonna grab a piece of that leg meat. check out Crispy it is. Oh look at that.

look at the skin. Oh wow oh wow, that's hot you wanna dip some honey on? Colors Oh oh yeah, Lamb is just everywhere. This is the first time I've worn surgical gloves to eat lamb. The leg.

Me: Wow. Totally different texture and flavor from the yes the shoulder. Wow I Love it I Love it. Yeah, that's unbelievable.

Cheers I've never eaten a lamb like this just standing up tearing in. Let's live together I Want to go? Oh that's it. That's it. That's it.

Oh yeah. hmm. oh wow. it's a lamb overdose.

What a way to eat a lamb. Just black gloves and just tearing into it just tearing the juicy bits. Oh look at this. this neck meat here.

This neck meat is unbelievably tender. Um oh wow. that melts in your mouth. Now we're gonna eat fries in our way.

This is how we used to eat the fries while we are in the childhood times back in the early 80s and now it's becoming very popular and everybody love it. So it's fries with some local sauces. You're gonna love it. It's crazy thing, very crazy.

we're gonna eat some Saudi style fries next. So after we finish school we see a guy who walked in the in the road and beaming that he have a fries and he said it like this. You know all the sauces inside. so yummy flavor of full of sauces.

You have to eat it. Now this is a juice in a bag. lemon and berries. There's like 12 different sauces.

Yes Cheers! All done. The fries are at the bottom. Pickles on top a Sprinkle of cumin. that is so much sauce.

The sauceiest fries ever! Okay here we go. Here we go Sir! Whoa. Amazing. Oh that's crazy.

There's so many different sauces going on. Yeah, if you don't know where one sauce engine, the next sauce starts, it's just. here's it. I Like the acidity, there's creaminess.

There's Tamarind There's that sprinkle of cumin. Those are loaded fries. It is quite tasty. Crazy huh? Yeah, that's quite a quite a combination human.

And then additionally, we have more of the traditional version that's um already pre-mixed in a bag with all the sauces like shaken under the fries. Let's try that next. Okay this is the classic one. So it's like the same sausage but just mixed in a bag.

yeah already. And then you kind of like that mixes all the sauces. Yeah this one is the classic one. Oh okay.

soggy. go with your hand, it's okay. Soggy. oh that's still hot.
all the sauces and mixed in the bag. Oh the garlic sauce. Yeah now you can tell because there is no pickles so you can taste the garlic. That is really tasty.

Whoa. And then follow that with some of the the juices in the bag. Lemon and the berries. Berries? Oh yeah.

sweet, oh sweet and cold. Perfect to go with the salty snack. Yeah, let's try the lemon. Oh yeah oh the lemon is great.

Yeah I Love it. I Love the lemon bagged potatoes. Lots of sauce and juices. Yeah yeah.

Cheers! Oh very good. You see The Cube For our last food of the day. we're in the car. We're going through a drive-through so this place is A.

It's actually a food truck. but it's a drive-through food truck. so there's already like five cars ahead of us and you can see the food truck up there. so we're just actually waiting in line.

Usually we eat it in the winter. you know it's called vanilla. It's a chickpeas. uh with some uh, pickles on the top and uh, some humans, some vinegars, some hot sauce.

It's gonna be yummy. You're Gonna Love It hello, what's up? Okay, so here we go and this looks amazing. It's clean, there's no oil if you smell those pickles. The cumin.

oh let's go. Hmm oh delicious. The chickpeas are just perfectly cooked I love that acidity of the pickles and the cumin. Oh men I do love peas and all shapes and forms.

That's a perfect snack. party. Nutritious. healthy chocolate.

Yeah, so it's milk and he adds on a bunch of spices. You really smell like cardamom. Oh nice. There's nuts in there too.

Is it coconut? Also coconut? Yes. Coconut. Coconut? okay. and spices.

and you really smell like cardamom. Oh wow Yeah. it's so thick and creamy. Wow, it's almost like a pudding.

It's a pudding. You're right. Oh man. Hot drinking pudding.

This is like perfect for the winter. Yeah seriously, what a combination that is So good. What a combination! What a way to finish off this amazing day in Jeddah And I Love just What a snack! So that's going to wrap up this amazing day in Jeddah Oh man. it really pulls up when the Sun goes down and it's windy.

Great weather, great time to be sitting in the car eating our last snack. that's like real Jeddah Style Saudi Style Just the the drive-through and it was like a a lamb celebration Festival It was like a circus of lamb today which was so good. But the hospitality, the friendliness, the delicious food. it's been a great day all the way starting from breakfast and that's gonna wrap up this day.
