PHILADELPHIA, USA - Welcome to Philadelphia, better known locally as Philly! Philly is known for many things and it’s an American food paradise. Today, we’re going on an ultimate Philadelphia food tour - we’ll be eating everything from Italian hoagies to cheese steaks to tomato pizzas - and hanging out with the amazing @JL Jupiter . Let’s start eating!
Ricci's Hoagies (https://goo.gl/maps/caxWt8i86LRMP7zj7) - Old Fashioned Italian - $10.50 - Ricci's Hoagies has been serving hoagies, the Philadelphia name for a sub sandwich, since 1920. One of the things that immediately stands out is how they slice your meat directly onto your sandwich. The meat never gets crusty and that makes a huge difference. One of the best deli sandwiches I’ve ever had.
Cacia's Bakery (https://goo.gl/maps/ijVwir6w8eGg4j8M6) - Another iconic food that Philadelphia is known for is tomato pie pizzas. The tomato sauce is known as gravy, and at Cacia's Bakery the gravy is made by hand, loaded with parmesan cheese, and baked onto a pizza base. The result is refreshing and focused on the amazing tomato sauce. They also have pizzas with cheese which are also delicious.
John's Roast Pork (https://goo.gl/maps/R5gBRMVpAV6A2XD29) - Roast pork - $10.75, Cheese Steak - $12.00 - Next JL and I went to John's Roast Pork, one of the Philly food legends, known for both roast pork sandwiches and Philly cheese steak. We got one of each. The pork sandwich was incredible, so juicy and peppery. And the cheese steak, was without a doubt one of the best cheese steaks I ate in Philadelphia (and we went on a full cheese steak tour, another video). Both absolutely sensational sandwiches in Philadelphia!
Sister Muhammad's Kitchen (https://goo.gl/maps/Eb8mVSZ5L6CpuvUh7) - Fish Hoagie - $10.50 - Next up on this ultimate food tour in Philadelphia we headed to Sister Muhammad's Kitchen to try their fish hoagies. They marinate the fish, batter it and deep fry it, and you’re guaranteed freshly fried fish in anything you order. We had their amazing fried fish hoagie, plus a Muslim fish hoagie which included a few extra ingredients and sauces, and finally, fried fish fried rice. Another amazing spot in Philly.
John's Water Ice (https://goo.gl/maps/Bj2rk8jjgz5X435N9) - Lemon water ice - $2.00 - Finally to finish this food tour we stopped in South Philly for a legendary water ice. Very refreshing on a summer afternoon.
What an amazing day in Philadelphia - cool people and delicious food. And awesome to hang out with @JL Jupiter !

Hey everyone hope you're having an amazing day. It's mark wiens, i'm in philadelphia and today we're going to go on an ultimate philly food tour. I'm going to meet up with my friend, jl jupiter. What's up man what's up brother? How are you, man, welcome to philadelphia mark he's from philadelphia he loves to eat.

He makes amazing food videos today we're gon na eat everything from roast pork to giant hoagie sandwiches to famous philly tomato pies. Philadelphia is an incredible city for food lovers like you and i oh yeah, that's the way i'm loving philadelphia already, and i can't wait to share all of the food with you in this video right now i'll be cracking up boy. Oh you make my day boy. You eat some good.

I know that shirt and i know that camp what's up jl, what's up y'all, welcome to philadelphia mark how you feeling man, i'm loving it so far, oh you're, currently here in south philadelphia cool. So where are we going to first jail? First spot that you select was richie's right here on uh, south philadelphia, but right off of washington ave. I believe it's like. I don't even know where i'm at 11th and ellsworth, i am lost it's early.

You know what i mean, but yeah, we about to check it out, i'm about to put them on some to some good south philly hoagie shops, yeah, okay, so here we are at richie's since 1920, a hundred years of hoagies jail. What exactly is a hoagie is that a philly term hoagie? Oh he's a philly term, so some people call it sub. Some people call it heroes. You know.

New york calls it heroes, but here in philadelphia the sandwiches is called a hoagie. It's on a long road. Sarcone or omarosa, whatever you know anything local uh. So let's go check it out mark how you doing all right, still good bud, uh, old-fashioned, italian, full and also uh.

That's a small one, a big one, a regular one, big one, yeah old-fashioned italian right. All right! Everything, please sure, thank you. That's amazing! Oh yeah, we went for the old-fashioned italian and one of the best things here is that they slice all the meat fresh. So oh man, the skills on that slicer.

He just flies on that buddy slice, your bread loads. It up with freshly sliced meat wrap that up it's just fully overloaded, it's beautiful my pleasure all right, i'm gon na show you how to do it. Um the local style. You got ta get any chips you want there.

We go! How about that right! There cool! It's good yup boom. All right. I appreciate it. I appreciate you have a great day too man, oh they're, so incredibly nice smell it mark these.

Oh man smell right there they're so loaded. It is heavy and we're just gon na, because it's such a beautiful day we're just gon na eat right here on this, like uh electrical wire utility box, hello. What's up man, you ready for martin, i'm ready. I can't wait.

First philly hoagy, first philly hoagie, south philly. Oh man, look at that! Look at that just bursting at the seams. Listening right there. Yes, look at that cross section! Oh! Oh man, it's just layered in there perfectly that is engineered to perfection.
Look at how all the layers are even how all the layers are perfectly fitted. Slotted. Look how clean it is. Look there's like barely anything fell out, and it just holds up it's so sturdy.

It's incredibly sturdy, vinegar dripping! Now! That's how you know you got a real italian, it's uh all right all morning we're eating hoagies! Oh yeah, all right jl cheers first bite of the day. First hoagie first whole game in philly. First time in philly. Let's go mark, oh wow, oh wow! It's so good, you know what makes a difference is the way they slice everything fresh.

None of those luncheon meats sit there and get crusty they're all sliced fresh, like literally in seconds. He just flies on that slicer. The meats go into your sandwich, oh man, and once you order it, you get your sandwich freshly cut. So it's so juicy too because of that oil, because that vinegar, you got the crunch of the lettuce, the onions in there.

The pickled peppers are amazing. It's so incredibly refreshing everything is uh perfectly blended together in a pure harmony, always an extraordinary sandwich that reaches and the seeded rose, has a nice toastiness to it too yeah right about that before we finish these sandwiches, though, so this is what we do here. Um, a lot of people do it too. You got to get a bag of chips, put it inside the sandwich crunch.

It up, take a bite out of it. It adds like another texture, another crunch, another flavor, uh level of flavor to your sandwich. So let me know when you alright, it's actually hard to put this thing down, but we know it's going to be worth it with those chips. It's funny mark reminded me.

I'm eating this sandwich he's like yo you're, going to put this you're going to put the chips in there. I was like jail chill man. I totally forgot to put the chips. It's delicious! It's amazing! Well, you already know it's delicious for me.

You know so good yeah, a pile of potato chips just like that. That's the way, fully loaded with potato chips, i'm gon na just scrunch that in crunch it down - oh yeah, that's the way to do it. Look at that! That is the next level pro tip. Jl philly style those philly style, munchies right here, filthy style, munchie, oh yeah, you're, right, the extra texture.

It's that texture that crunch that saltiness, i'm loving philadelphia already people are cool food is amazing. Oh that's one of the greatest sandwiches. I've ever had that mix of meats also is just killer like the way it plays after each other, perfect harmony. This to me is is one of those sandwiches where it's the right ratio of cuts of meat and the bread.

So right about that mark, i'm you making me happy. Man welcome to philadelphia again, i keep saying it welcome final bite. This is a sandwich that i will never forget. Moving on to the next place.
Let's do it yep next up today on this food tour philadelphia where we're going we're staying in south philly we're at cash's bakery they do amazing tomato pies, it's a fresh bakery. They got. They still got the oven from like the 1900s, so yeah, let's go check. It out mark - and so this is a tomato pie - is another iconic food of philadelphia, right, yeah, yeah i'd, say it's probably more like an underground thing: um tomato pie, no cheese, it's really just dough and sauce, and i was telling mark yeah.

You can tell a a great place you can tell if the food is going to be tasty by the way the pans are look how how seasoned the pans are. We do pizza with big rolls. You know this is one of the one of the last brick ovens left in philadelphia. There's only only a couple of them, yeah very cool yours are still working up.

Somebody else started the business built the oven. My grandfather came in and bought it in 53 because the guy that owned it before him, he had two sons and neither one of them wanted to work the business. So he said, i'm not going to stay sold it to my grandfather and we've been here ever since, and what's the story of the tomato pies, it's just something that bakeries did back in the day. Just because you know it was easy and quick and it tastes good yeah.

You know i make i make that gravy myself okay every day from scratch. Oh, that's! Not! No! Uh, don! Pepino gravy! That's sauce! Okay! That's the tomato sauce! That's the gravy! Sam kasha gravy! That's not, that is the real deal anywhere wow. This is how i test if it's too thick, or it needs a little bit more, a little bit more water. Now we're good got everything all blended in there just first man, the vibrancy of that gravy, that tomato sauce you can smell the tartness of it.

I love his move when he, after after spreading out that gravy and then he just tilts it rocks it back and forth to make a perfectly even coating, and this is cold. Okay watch this, oh yeah, oh i'll, take a dip! Take a plate of that! Thank you so much here. Thank you, sir. Cheers that tomato sauce, the gravy, the gravy just imagine when it's hot and that's cold gravy, and it's still oh yeah, it's a winner.

I love the tartness of it. There's going to be a hot, fresh tomato pie coming out of the oven in a few minutes, so we're going to wait for that fresh out of the oven. I can't wait to try the tomato pie. This is this.

Is our oh, this rotary rotating yeah, this wow, like you, know like a merry-go-round like a merry-go-round wow, that's a serious piece of deliciousness. Yes, oh wow, are you ready for this mark? Let's move to the front: let's move to the front hot and fresh, a master at your craft. It's beautiful tomato pie, fresh out of the oven, cheers, welcome to philly again mark oh yeah, oh yeah. Oh that's incredible! Oh man, the vibrancy of the tomato sauce that parmesan in there just like, boosts up that umami and then just of course just the bread, because it's so perfectly crispy on the bottom, but gooey where the sauce meets the the dough yeah that crust perfect textural blend.
In there tomato pod um, you can eat three of these by accident and not even know it that's right, yeah. That was the mission. This is loving the simplicity of it, but it's actually not even that simple i mean it looks simple, but the flavor, the complexities in that sauce, the gravy there's a lot of love that goes into that tomato pie, so got ta. Try it while it's fresh cream filled in oh yeah, wow that is thick and rich and so smooth the contrast of textures and yeah being filled right before you take a bite so that it's still completely crispy.

That makes all the difference. We'll keep this thing moving, though okay, so we're moving on now to the next place, especially well famously to eat a roast pork sandwich. That's right, all right! Whatever you want to eat, i got you. Let's go next place.

Jl johns rose, pork, south philadelphia again: okay and you'll immediately notice. This place it's on the corner kind of looks like an industrial area. Some of the best rose pork sandwich, one of the most underrated iconic philadelphia sandwiches. But since he's here he's also got to try the cheesesteak too so philadelphia.

Let's show him a good time and this place. It says, since 1930 1930. they've been rocking that roast pork john's roast pork. I can't wait to try.

It then come here. They eat cheese steak from time to time, but the roast pork is really the uh premier sandwich that they get so you're about to find out more. He gon na learn today. Okay, now do most do most people come in here for the the cheese.

They know that there's the report like we were starting here in 1930 and it was my father, my father's father it used to be. You know we sold, you know five or six pork cheese, steaks. You know we sold a lot more work, you know um. Now it's kind of like one to one, sometimes a little more cheesesteak.

You know, but you know it really. I mean yeah main items here: yeah well the cheesesteak. We did like the way my dad made it. He hated it.

You know he only would put like four ounces of steak and then he would put uh. He would only charge like two and a quarter. You know so so. When i started working, i left school, my dad's got cancer and uh.

I told him. I was like dad we're gon na put 12 ounces of meat. You know six slices and it went crazy, like don't, i said, but we're gon na charge like six seven right now. It's like twelve dollars, yeah the price of product is going dominic and then my dad was gone like we do like little batches, all right, yeah.

The second one gets banana peppers see like closely on their places. They have steak already pulled off. You know i love how he makes it in a small batch and just like steams that steak, those thin slices of steak over a bed of onions, the aroma, the cloud of steam coming out of it, and then he shreds them up depending on what you order. It with then he mixes they mix in some of those chilies they mix in they put that cheese on and he's getting ready to put that into the roll.
So then the cheese goes on top it kind of covers, so that just kind of like fold it in fold it in yeah. This is kind of different than most places. Okay, they kind of like fold it in like that, it's kind of like a pocket. You know what i mean wow one of these look at it.

You guys order yet yeah, and so this is what this is, what it started off with right. Your grandfather started off with this roast pork all right and we're going to put spinach on top, because we don't use a lot of places, use broccoli or out. We don't use it because i think it's like too bitter okay kind of kind of hides. The flavor of my grandfather's recipe so has this pork been like braised raised in its own juices and i'll show you a picture of it: okay, okay! This is two days worth of work right here: wow and juice.

It re-juice it pack that in there. Oh, that's just dripping with juices. Oh man, we did. We got a pork and a cheese we got them.

Both. Oh yeah got to got the cheesesteak we're going to come out here to the parking lot. Outdoor seating they've got some beautiful picnic tables. I cannot wait to dig in bolt that roast pork, oh man, the juiciness of that roast park it up.

He puts a yeah, he drains it. He drains it out. So i got a cheesesteak. We got the roast pork that was beautiful.

Talk about a solid, that's like a brick, the weight of a brick. Oh it's loaded loaded, but i think we should start with the roast pork, though, because that's the that's what they started off with that's what they're most known for that's. What's in the name, that's right: let's do the reveal, let's do it. Oh, they have to double wrap it.

It's so juicy out here. Man look! Is that oh yeah, here we go here, we go the reveal. Oh man, look at that. Oh look at that baby.

Look at that the philly sandwich skills are out of control. Really no sandwiches man talk about it. Look at the thickness of that bread to be able to absorb all that pork juice, the cheese i'm from here and i'm i'm still amazed. How good this looks.

All right cheers cheers: oh wow, oh yeah, it's massive! But it's so tender and, like you, take a huge bite and it just collapses in your mouth, one of the best sandwiches you can get in philly the rose. Pork, don't sleep on the rose? Pork! Well, i guess, if you eat, if you don't eat pork, then maybe go for the cheese steak but yo one of the best sandwiches here, especially with that spinach. So you know they put love into this roast pork sandwich too. Oh bad luck! The deep flavor yeah! I've just been braves for so long.
Only thing. I'm missing, though, is some horseradish. Oh right, oh that'd be good. Pork ribs did they usually put them on sometimes, okay.

Sometimes i bring my own, but i forgot man, i'm sorry. I do have chili in my bag. Oh, you want some chili, oh i can't. I got some crazy chili in my i've got my favorite chili in jail all right.

Let's do i want to see what a mark means. Chili tastes like okay, the smoked ghost pepper? No, it's actually not that my favorite seasoning right here look. You can see the whole black peppercorns in there when you, when you open it up. Look at that! That's what we call love all right hit me mark here, just go with a bite on the top.

First, i mean just do a bit like that. I love everything about the roast pork here, but we do love spice, add a little bit of sprinkle, of that ghost pepper, just don't breathe into that chili, the smokiness of it. I love it. You know one of the greatest things about this.

This is delicious. It's delicious right, yeah, it's not like! It builds. If you keep on eating it, but like it's perfect, i normally wait when i eat hot stuff. I have to wait like 10 15 seconds to see if it's really gon na hit because there's slow builders, it smells kind of like a slow builder, but it's just a slow barrier.

It's steady, but it's delicious i'll light it up baby light it up baby. All right man, our cheesesteak here that cheesecake this is about as legendary as it gets when it comes to cheesesteak. If you come here for a cheesesteak, i am not mad at you, man all right. You ready for this fine.

That is just messily. Perfect. Look at this for a masterpiece of a sandwich all that cheese, just folding it folded in melted into the center of that beef. I love how everything so far in philadelphia is just on the verge of being soggy and sloppy, and that's exactly how you want it to be perfect and sloppy.

Oh cheers, first, cheese steak, oh yeah wow. That is insane there's the one that is the one mm-hmm. Actually, when we were in line almost everyone is here for the cheesesteak yeah talked to a couple guys. That said, this is their favorite cheese, chicken in philly yeah, and who can blame them these steak? Are it's not chopped fine, so you're not going to get no ground beef action? You actually see the strand of steak.

Coming out. You see that now now some of y'all, some some locals - may say hey jl. Why did you put ketchup on your steak? That's how i eat my steak, leave me alone all right, and i don't know how you think. Is there a controversy about that some people are like? Oh, you know, everybody has their own yeah.

It's all preference! I, like that sweetness to the ketchup there's just this pile of steak and cheese nestled into this fluffy sesame seed bun hit that with a little special powder migration - knowledge. Yes right there, man with that extra chili wow that is actually chili's, beautiful man, so good you're. So good, i'm in love, i'm in love with that powder. This discreet, you can put it right in your backpack going on anytime, we get along very well.
Are we in north philly, now north philly jail? Where are we going next we're in nice town right now? Next destination is sister muhammad all right. They got the legendary fish hoagie. We got the legendary muslim fish hoagy we're about to go check him out, i'm about to put mark horn to the to the fish hoagie next, so stay tuned. This is our batter all right and what's your name, john john john, very nice - to meet you okay.

So what are you gon na do? First of all, we always do stress flowers, yeah man, yes, nice, okay, that's good enough for you, yeah that looks great. Okay! Get in here and they let it get like this all right, that's so that's the only the flower can take through the bag, the liquid, let it drain. Let it drain a couple of seconds and put it back in the first floor, get the flour. Let it drain.

Okay, perfectly evenly coat everything there we go now. I take it. My station wipe down as i go all right, see how you look perfect. Yep now come back over here: okay, all right, and how long does that deep fry for it? Maybe about 12 minutes, come to sister mohammed's.

You are guaranteed to have that fresh fish fry guaranteed, guarantee guaranteed. Oh and that's smelling so good. Already you got a nice fresh shortening here. Oh yeah take a picture not yet buddy, so we got that roll four pieces.

Okay, four pieces of fish overflowed over stuffing. How are you going to fold that one up you don't fall? It's like an open face was for fish far right, so right, right, green pepper. We use brown rice, it's yellow because we put turmeric in it. Okay, it's already pre-mixed with your vegetables.

Now, if you're watching this, you will not get this much fish. This is for them, especially for them chop and mix all in one motion move with the double spatulas, but it's so effective, just mixing it around chopping, mixing stirring and next up for the muslim hoagie they're going to show us it's middle sweet peppers. Reading green pepper, freezing there's more fish than you will receive if you come down here, this is especially for them. You get to join your favorite chocolate chop it up all right.

You want to put the lettuce last because you don't want to cook now how much you're going to get this is for them mayonnaise on the roll. Now, everything in here is awkward at any point in time. Oh the entire spatula turn over things. Watch your back sauce, we got the the gigantic overflowing fish, hoagie, the muslim hoagie and the fried rice this one okay.

So this one is normal sized normal. Let's pick this up wow, it's a honey wheat roll right here, i think wow, that philadelphia sandwich layering is something i'm impressed by i'm impressed by. We do not play around look at that. That's the way it's just nestled in there that cross section - oh yeah, oh wow, best thing about this - is that fish, that's so freshly fried.
This is exactly what i needed right now. Let's go switch up what we had the mayonnaise special sauce, the pickled peppers in there, the mayonnaise kind of moistens, the entire, the entire sandwich. I love how it's crispy again. It's amazing how it like stays within.

You can oh yeah. You can hit me baby one more time. Oh yeah, it's that magic dust right here, yep, look at how big it is. This is overflowing.

He chopped everything up fit it in here. It's so heavy. You can't barely pick it up. Amazingly it like fits look when we pick that up.

Barely anything fell, oh with the raisins in here it has a nice bunch of sweetness to it. Wow yeah, the balance of flavor, sweet, salty and you've all got that that fried fish, which is then chopped up and mixed with it as well, i'm at the edge of my limbs right now, man, oh it's a messy super messy sandwich, so don't try to eat This, while you're driving make sure you take your time with it, you will need a detail if you try to, and if you don't get messy you're, not eating it right, there's no clean way and that's how you want it. Okay, the fried rice with the mashed up pieces of fish in here too, and then you mashed up some vegetables, there's some onions in there. Oh wow, it's good too.

It's like almost the same flavor as the fish hoagie just chopped up within a fried rice and then you've got oh, you taste that sweet and sour sauce that he put into it. We ate quite a lot of food quite fast. Today. It's been amazing.

You truly are a legend and she ran through this honestly. Food here in philly is tough. Like you eat one sandwich, you're done yeah, we ate, we started nine o'clock and then we went to several other places and he's still jolly he's still. You know one to go places me i'm just like.

I got ta take a deep breath. No, no we're slowing down as we're we're, not we're not we're not 21 anymore. He truly is we're slowing down we're slowing down uh, but philly dude. Well, thanks to jl who's been so cool, taking us around, showing us some of his favorite spots, dude love what you're doing love the videos you're making.

I think i mean for sure both of us just love to eat and dude so much fun to hang out. Thank you bro. You are the man you're welcome, you're, the man too.

Thank you so much yeah. I think it's time for a little a lean back. It's all about the lean back. Let me tell you that food in philadelphia, though it is, it's not light food, but we need.

We need to cool it down. You know we need something sweet, so i had to take you to south philadelphia again to try out the legendary john's water ice john's water ice mega. That's yours, yep! Thank you very much jail. Thank you, my brother.
Thank you. So much do you take credit card or just cash? Okay, i got it. Ah, so what's cool about this water ice is, i was thinking it was going to be more like a snow cone where they have crushed ice and then pour on some syrup. But this is more like a uh, it's pre-made already it's made already the flavor's within this ice and you can see that texture.

How fine it is that looks amazing. This is exactly what we needed. It looks like, after to refresh after all of that cheesesteak it's gon na bring me back to life right now, they're, refreshing yeah and you got ice cream with yours too. I got the pineapple by the way and i got the lemon mmm.

I got missouri yo pineapple, oh yeah, pineapple is the goat here. If y'all know about the pineapple john's, the pineapple is smacking right here you got to try them. Okay, i'm gon na try the pineapple. Thank you.

Oh yeah, pineapple is good. Lemon is good too lemon's. Really good my man, my man, micah little man got the gelati. You like the gelati, you like it, he likes it.

No he's busy. I love the texture of it, so smooth, that's absolutely perfect for a summer afternoon in philadelphia, and so that is going to complete this food tour in philadelphia. Today it was an incredible day: the food amazing, the people that we met. I want to say a massive thank you to jail jupiter for taking us around jail.
