I was invited to attend a food event with Chowzter.com in Singapore, and so my wife and I flew to Singapore. But before the events took place, we had a bit of free time, and I used the opportunity to do what is the best thing to do in Singapore: eat.
We were walking around the Chinatown area of Singapore, and I was trying to decide what to eat - not that there weren’t enough places to choose from - the problem was that there were too many decisions and too many delicious places to try, and I didn’t know which one to choose. As we were walking around the People’s Park Centre, which is kind of a tech mall, I caught sight of a restaurant called Warung Aneka Rasa – Muslim Nasi Padang, that was busy. Seeing the words Nasi Padang, which happens to be one of my favorite meals in the world, I chose to go there immediately for lunch.
Nasi Padang is a style of food from Padang on the island of Sumatra, in Indonesia. Sumatra happens to be very close to Singapore, and the entire Malay peninsula, so the food share some similarities with Malay cuisine, and there are also many people from Sumatra living in Singapore. Nasi Padang includes a plate of rice, topped with a variety of curries and dishes that are all prepared ahead of time, and ready to be ordered. To order, you just walk up to the front counter, get a plate of rice, and then tell them what dishes you want to add to the top of your rice. I got a plate of rice and added a big piece of chicken curry, plus some ikan bilis - fried anchovies and peanuts, and another dish of little fish fried with just a few stink beans - one of my favorite ingredients. Finally I also got a scoop of stir fried green beans or long beans, and then she added on a nice spoon of curry sauce over everything. Finally, a plate of Nasi Padang wouldn’t be complete without a nice spoon of sambal, or chili sauce on the side.
We got a table overlooking the road, with a nice Singapore breeze, and a nice friendly atmosphere. The restaurant was pretty crowded as it was right at the end of lunch, but we managed to find a seat. The Nasi Padang was not the best I’ve had so far, but it was very good, and since it had been a while since I had eaten Nasi Padang is was really good. I think Warung Aneka Rasa – Muslim Nasi Padang is an excellent restaurant to try Nasi Padang in Singapore when you are in the Chinatown area.

Open hours: I think the hours were from 9 am – 10 pm daily, but I can’t confirm 100%, in any case, if you go for lunch, you should be fin.
Prices: We paid $13 SGD ($9.62 US) for both of our plates, for just 1 plate it was $6.50 SGD
