TUCSON, ARIZONA - Welcome to Tucson, Arizona, one of the best Mexican food cities in the United States, and one of the great places to eat Sonoran Mexican food. When it comes to Sonoran food, the King of all dishes is carne asada, or grilled steak - grilled meat. In Northern Mexico is where they have cattle ranches that produce the best beef in the country. Tucson has many authentic local restaurants and street food stalls that specialize in carne asada, and today we’re going on an ultimate carne asada tour of Tucson!
Thanks to my friends Carlos and Annette for joining us on this tour and Alejandro (if you’re in Tucson and need transportation, look him up).
📍 Los Tacos Apson (https://goo.gl/maps/5ctxE6Ka734KqV7b8) - First place is Los Tacos Apson one of the best taquerias for carne asada in Tucson, and one of the best in the United States! They have a variety of things from the grill, including beef ribs, steak cuts, calf testicles, and a few other unique parts. They grill everything over mesquite to give all meat an amazing smoky taste. Their tacos and ribs and outstanding!
📍 El Guero Canelo (https://goo.gl/maps/wumTrXdEe8Pac5CPA) - Next up we met up with the owner of El Guero Canelo to taste his version of carne asada. He grills his high quality beef over mesquite and the burritos are huge. I love their salsa and toppings bar.
📍 Taqueria Aqui Con El Nene (https://goo.gl/maps/LzfHu7DTrYQaKkB57) - Continuing on this Mexican street food tour, Taqueria Aqui Con El Nene is another place that specializes in carne asada, especially Obregon style. Their taco yaqui, with includes carne asada, mushrooms, and bacon all melted within an open faced green chile and settled onto two overlapping flour tortillas is insanely delicious.
📍 Karamelo King (https://goo.gl/maps/9yJTJ4GYCse1Wjru7) - Finally to complete this Mexican street food tour in Tucson, we went to Karamelo King to eat a karamelo, which is basically a stuffed quesadilla. They grill the carne asada fresh, then melt cheese on a tortilla, load it up with toppings, and serve it with onions and salsas on the side. It’s absolutely spectacular!
And that completes this ultimate King of carne asada, Mexican street food tour in Tucson, Arizona - again one of the best Mexican food cities in the United States!

Hey everyone hope you're having an amazing day. It's mark wiens, i'm back in tucson arizona, which is one of the best mexican food cities in the united states, especially for sonoran mexican food and one of the ultimate, the greatest of all sonoran mexican foods is carne asada, which is grilled beef. This is cattle country. This is ranch country and they produce the best beef in sonora mexico.

So today we're gon na go on a carne asada tour, the king of carne, asada, grilled mexican beef of tucson, i'm gon na be hanging out with my friend carlos you have to support it. Support it with two hands: we're going to go around tucson and we are going to show you the amazing carne asada in tucson this. Yes, one of the most legendary taquerias places to eat carne asada restaurants period, one of the most famous in all of tucson, and it's called tacos apsan apsan, i believe, is a mexican rock band, and so the way it works here is that you walk up to The counter window, which is all outside you, make your order and then you pick it up in the other line on the other window, but they have the entire menu just plastered onto the wall. And then, if you look over to the right hand, side you'll see an entire menu picture menu.

All expect i mean everything comes from the grill, especially focused around carne asada grilled meat, grilled beef, but they do have many different variations. A lot of different options that you can choose from what is your my name is roberto okay, yeah nice to meet you yeah. I make it for a long time, my friend yeah, maybe 35 years wow, so they're famous for costias, which are the ribs um and then carne asada he's chopping it up. Oh, it smells so good.

The aroma of that beef. Okay, i think it's actually a calf calf testicles, almost look like little natural sausages. Oh yes, fresh off the grill, oh wow, oh god. Oh it's amazingly flavorful and smoky.

It has a very nice texture too, very good, a little bit crumbly. It very good. A little bit of a livery yep ironiness to it, but not too strong. All that texture.

Look at that! It's like a natural hot dog. I love that spongy texture, an absolute master on the grill, just they're, just just rocking those ribs just flying around the grill. The smoky aroma is absolutely insane. This is carne asada taco paradise; okay, wow, okay, you just made for me what a creation - and this is one of their signature tacos.

This is spicy, though okay, this is just pico. You know you like shitty cream huh. Oh man. Oh with that cheese, oh half a taco, there will be many many more tacos, but we're waiting for the castillas, the ribs to finish so.

This is just a quick one bite in the kitchen. Second bite. Second bite. Second bite in the kitchen after the huevos cheers.

Oh wow, oh so many flavors in that man. That is so good. That is insane the smokiness of the carne asada, which is you can taste like the the crispy caramelized edges of it. The cheese is so melty.
The flavor of the green chili we've been in tucson for 21 years in april and uh absolutely, but we pretty much linked it as a tribute to my father-in-law he's the it's the band they have in our pizza. We have this and they used to do a lot of covers like in spanish, from the beatles and in all of those bands. Back there man, you guys were pretty pretty famous yeah, and i was so he was your father, my father-in-law, that wanted the battery. Oh okay, in the in the drums.

Okay, if you can see this is like that disc, they used to do like the records they used to do way before and it's because of the band that taco it's a guitar, taco and then musical notes, and it's because of the band. That's amazing and that's how i love it. That's how i created it. The logo and i love the outside.

Look everything about this place. I love it a beef here is it from mexico. The ribs are ready. He takes them off just slices them into each rib, because that entire rib is going to go onto a taco, and then he just like stacks them up like dominoes and then back onto the grill.

What is it, what is it called again when he takes the costilla, and the ribs gives me shapes? Oh okay, so the shape of the rim, yeah nancy huh i've never been so excited in my life. I think our tacos are ready there. It is that is the most beautiful tray of tacos. I think i've ever seen, you probably remember carlos when we took a trip to mexico, was that, like three or four years ago, almost three years ago, yeah, but i have to 2018.

I have to give credit to carlos everything that i know and love about. Mexican food is originally because of carlos. When we were in university, we used to just eat non-stop mexican food, okay, carlos it's time to do it. I think we should bite into the rib.

Actually, yes, they put tortillas at the bottom just to like sop up the oil and the grease. Oh, it's so hot! Okay! Thank you! A little bit of lime. The tortilla is more like a napkin. You have to use it as a napkin cheers ready.

Let's do this cheers wow, just the the smokiness of it, because of all that fat, rendering out as it's in the smoke as it's grilling. That's why the rib is so tasty. How is the best beef that's closest to the bone? Nothing better than just goes to get that salad charcoal it's the most flavor yeah. Look at that.

I also love how it's not too tender. You can tell that this is a real cattle, a ranch cow with so much like grass-fed desert, sonoran herb, flavor, yeah. You've got all the grizzle in there, but that's what makes it gives it so much flavor is this one called the can carlos a shaved shaved from the bone anything else any of the or just salsa? No just salsa yeah, i'm more just a blind salsa myself! Oh, that is a a new meat experience. It's like a like bacon of beef right.

Oh my god, like belly of beef. That is exactly right. It's straight up like crunchy bacon in texture, oh man, wow that taco was insane. I could eat like 10 of those.
Those are good, the three parts is the intestines which they grill just for a little bit and then they they finish it off on the hot griddle so that it like literally crispifies in its own sudsy fatty oily one of my favorite tacos yeah. I remember that you always used to go for three five yeah. You never go wrong, yeah the texture because they're just fries in its own fat and crispifies, so it has that smoky flavor, along with the crispiness. It's incredible.

I want to try the whales again tacos. Okay, that is loaded too, so it's the! I think, it's a calf testicles, how many? Where was it here? How many animals yeah? How many animals three cups, yeah, there's like at least like half a dozen oh they're, so soft, slightly spongy, and i love that crumbly texture to them not the same similar flavor as uh on the way right. A little bit of irony irony, iron, neatness and the texture is literally almost hot doggy, smooth texture, smooth texture, very smooth texture that was incredibly satisfying next up for the taco apson, which is one of their again their signature taco. We tried it in the kitchen, but we have a whole plate of it now so again, this one is cheese, mushroom, onions and green chili.

What a taco yep! It's a perfect harmony. It's a two biter! It is a two button. That is the way you eat a rib wow. So you see white the clean bone like a piano keyboard.

You missed your first bite your first bite. He like took off that entire side. Carlos man, we were amateurs, he's just showing you up. That's carlos's cousin insane skills because it's tough me that's a serious experience right.

There, yeah sharp teeth, yeah, that's the way to eat the coconut again, some of the best carne asada in the united states. I think, and the best in tucson so good. We are gon na head out from here and just down the road. We're gon na go to a place called huero canelo, which is famous for hot dogs, but they also specialize in carne asada, which not that many people know about.

We started a taco stand four by eight back in 93, now we have like a street like a street taco. Okay, like a street taco, is ten okay like four by eight now we have three restaurants, our meal market, our own tortilla factory and our bakery, and about 110 employees. We support so i'm very proud of my company, i'm very proud of myself, but i'm very proud of my to customer some arizona they're the best. Thank you, nice uh, medium or large.

Okay. Here we go. Thank you for coming. I wanted to promote my journal for years, okay, but i leave it up to him.

Okay, whatever you want this tortilla mexico, this is tortilla and good way ready. Yes, this is what huero canelo mean. This is uh the admiral kai bonless. Well, you here such a hot girl that thin strips of the steak goes on.
This came from my farm. It smells so good immediately. Yeah um never had to marinate that's different, but tonora. Yes, this is so you put love on it like this, so no marinade, but just salt.

Yes, so this is my marinade right here. One shot one shot when you turn it over. No more. Oh man, that is a raging hot fire, and so you don't cook it for too long.

No, no you're like about a medium medium. You better use it. Okay, keep those juices. You know where the beach raise the beef skills passion just like a wolf for good quality food.

Let's do the good stuff. Okay, we have to do one of those huge burrows, a razor knife, and that steak you could see the quality of it perfectly. Juicy-Ness of it smells so good, yes at fresh carne, asada, wow meat, and then you put beans, okay, a little bit of beans. This is son and father.

It weighs like a brick just as a comparison. Okay, so this is a regular pool right here. This is a regular burrito and so for a bureau, normally you're gon na just season at the top right. Once you take a few bites and then you can add on salsa as you go, you never open up, never open.

Okay, say it one more time. If you come to huero canelope, you don't get a chili, you don't come to uero canelo. Okay, we got it. This is the best place for burritos tacos.

So congratulations. Thank you. Voda cheers cheers i like here's a character, and the best thing about a bureau is that you can just pour in the salsa with each bite pound of cardamom salad in here. Sprinkle of lime is a must next up for this other salsa.

This is a different salsa. It looks more of a roasted salsa. I've been waiting to try that jalapeno wow the juiciness. This is spicy for a mexicannot, for you very good, oh yeah wow, it's good! Just so much fun hanging out with the owner with carlos and his cousin giant burrows and make it right.

This is from here we're going to go to the next place for carne asada, but we're going to wait a little bit until this evening. We need some digestion time and also it will get a little cooler once the sun goes down, but definitely some more carne asada coming up. We are ready to eat some more carne asada we're at another legendary place. It's called takaria con, el nine and the carne asada is going.

He also has some potatoes on the grill in the back. We might have to try a potato here. The aroma of carne asada just will never get old smoking over the mesquite over the fire. Oh man smells great.

I love this place. I love the little courtyard setting right on the the corner of the road. It's pretty loud. It's a great environment.

This entire street can smell the aroma of the carne asada. Those tacos they're going to show us how to make the takoyaki, which is the it's one of the ultimate tacos of tucson. They start with an entire green chili, but sliced open, and i love how they keep it whole, not dicing it up, keeping it whole mushroom and bacon uh. It is an amazing creation, because everything is just stuffed within the open-faced green chile and then onto the tortilla.
Absolute stunning, stunning tacos, we got some regular carne asada tacos, and then we also got a potato because you had those on the grill which looked amazing and they top it with mushrooms and bacon and carrots. Oh man and then the full salsa bar all the different salsas, all the different pico de gallos and lemons and limes and pickled onions slime is a must. Oh, i think, they're stuck together. I think they're held together with cheese, so it all like holds together they're, like stuck together with melted, glue together with cheese.

This is what it's called two hands. Yeah you have to. You have to support it, support it with two hands. You have to go in sideways carlos with this one.

Oh, it's such a genius, beautiful idea. That is amazing. It's so hot! You can even see the caramelized cheese, oh wow, oh it's so hot the meat juices are burning. My fingers! Oh, that's incredible, though, you really taste the bacon, the flavor of the bacon, the cheese you get, the bacon, the cheese bacon is powerful and then the chili verde it's like a bed of chili verde, wrapped within yet open-faced wow, what a full meal! This is right.

It's like a complete meal. It's everything all of your your nutritional needs in one taco here green chili in there is just amazing. It really makes it okay. Now wonder this taco got six dollars carlos cause.

It's fully loaded, sensational flavor. The combination of everything is just amazing, astounding, oh man, the salsas are amazing too. You got the whole. You have a tail, the chili stem.

Oh, you got the lucky. Chili stem. Definitely when you load it up with this salsa, your lips start to burn. So this is just normal, carne sada, just the grilled beef in a taco, some cabbage.

On top, they add a little bit of salsa as oh, you well on chewing the smokiness, the fatty oiliness of that comes through. This is straight up, simple salty. When it comes, i think that's a serrano chili, the flavor, the smokiness, the juiciness, which is the potato loaded with carne asada, there's also bacon on there. It's like a fully loaded, baked potato, except it's a grilled potato, okay, carlos you have to you, have to dig into this.

You want to make sure you get some of all the toppings with the potato in the bottom. This is something i've never had before. Is this a common thing in, i think it's more sonora or it's like? Oh okay, food style, good, very good, it's very good, very filling! So if you want like a full meal, roasted potato with all the bacon and the flavorful kind of on top very good, another amazing place to eat in tucson and also some unique twists, because they specifically serve obregon style food from here, we have one more place. That's gon na wrap it up this entire karnasara tour of tucson and alejandro.
He said that this is his favorite place and we're on our way there. Next they they know how to do caramels here. What what exactly is a caramel? It's two tortillas flour tortillas with cheese like a quesadilla, but they add carne asada into it. You can just smell both carne asada and melted cheese in the air.

They have a front cart, they have a back seating area and then also the girl is back here and so we're just waiting for the charcoal to heat and he's going to throw on some a fresh batch of the carne asada yeah. I love this place already. Caramel, king caramel, okay: this is the place here the place. This is the place where you brought us to the right place to the right place coming from a local, yes, very, very long, very, very local, local, not local hello.

The fresh carne asada goes on and again for sonoran style has to be fresh. Beef salt goes on, the onions are growing. You can smell that mesquite charcoal. Oh man, that's sizzle, so go into the truck to make the caramelos okay he's gon na make the caramels in here, but first slice up that carne tada caramel kimchi wow wow over the entire tortilla, then scoops on a spoon of the fresh carne asada that he Just grilled moments ago, a little bit of beans, but almost just for the juice for the bean juice, because just a little sprinkle of beans, a handful of cabbage a little bit of the caramelized onions and then tops it off with some avocado and then flips it Over that is amazing, and then also just watching him.

He made the carne asada fresh chops it in there makes it fresh for you on the hot plate puts on just like, like there's like three beans. He puts three beans. It's like that little it's almost just for the juice everything is melted together, it's probably like glued together with the cheese it's hot, it's fresh, that is a work of art, okay, there's like 10 beans. So do you put salsa on the inside or on the outside? No inside inside or outside everything inside okay, so we're gon na, add onions, the pico de gallo load, it all up and then salsa to finish it off re-fold it back up.

That is one of the most beautiful things ever and just look at the bubbly crispy tortilla. That's a perfect way to end this tour today with one of the greatest creations with carne asada. Ever oh, oh man! Yes, i know i can't just got ta go in! Oh man, the smoky cardinal soda, our cheese, the creamy avocado, the crispy tortilla, it's all in there. It's all just melted together and the three beans, the three bananas in there for the juice gloriously, everything you could possibly want in a tortilla all melted together and grilled.

There's so many layers of flavor, the smokiness, the cheese a little more salsa to top it off, i can't even believe it. Okay, this is the place for caramel waited all day yeah. You were like from the morning. You sat you sat out from eating until now.
You patiently just waiting for this time right. This is a place, so it's a corn tortilla they put on the grill to get it crunchy like that, and then they put the bean cheese and also the carla, and then they top it with that special salsa. From from this guys and green chili in here too, i guess yes, even better. Yes, already carlos, you can see the grill mark, yes, completely completely toasted grilled on the bottom.

Okay and it's juicy - it's dripping, oh wow, it's so crunchy and you feel that corn texture. That's amazing: it all pairs together so well. That was an absolutely amazing way to end this carne asada tour today has been an amazing day of carne asada and again the people of tucson, the amazing sonoran mexican mexican food and the incredible incredible carne asada i'll have all the restaurants that we ate at today. All the way from the beginning, uh to ending here this evening, i'll have them all listed in the description box below a huge thank you to my friend alejandro for taking us around and he's he knows the spots.

He knows the spots all around tucson and always good to hang out with my buddy, carlos and yeah. I want to say a big thank you to you for watching this video. Thank you so much for watching. Please remember to give a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and also leave a comment.

Carne asada is so simple but the key ingredient to Sonoran style Carne Asada is Mesquite wood charcoal. Jeebus!…once you smell that carne and onions sizzling over a mesquite grill…your mouth starts watering!!! I've tried Guero Canelo and Aqui Con El Nene but I haven't tried Karamelo King. I'd like to visit Tacos Apson sometime soon, funny thing is its literally right around the corner from where I live in Tucson.
