Day 5 (Trat ตราด): Eastern Thailand Food and Travel Tour. Watch all 8 videos here:
Trat is a beautiful and relaxed town in Eastern Thailand. The people are friendly and the food is outstanding. But nothing compares to the incredible and giant sized seafood you’ll find. After eating some street food in the morning, we then met up with the fantastic crew from Trat Food (https://www.facebook.com/tratfood/) to eat one of the most amazing seafood meals of my life - including giant alien mantis shrimp!
Kuay Teow Boo Sukhumvit (ร้านก๋วยเตี๋ยวปูสุขุมวิท) - Morning market in Trat is nice to visit but there’s not much cooked food to eat. So for breakfast we went to a legendary restaurant for a couple spicy breakfast dishes.
Mantis shrimp holy basil (ข้าวกระเพรากั้ง)
Crab eggs with chilies (ข้าวพริกขี้หนูปูไข่)
Price - 50 THB ($1.60) per plate
Khao Gaeng San Toong Ek Sinchon (ข้าวแกงแสนตุ้งเอกสินชล) - If you ask anyone in Trat where to eat spicy curries, many will mention the Shell pump gas station curry restaurant. They serve San Toong style Trat curry here and it’s amazing.
Pork garcinia cowa (หมูชะมวง)
Wild boar curry (แกงหมูป่า)
Sour pineapple curry (แกงส้มสับปะรด)
Bird curry (แกงนก)
Deer curry (แกงกวางหน่อสับปะรด)
ไก่กระวาน
Total price - 270 THB ($8.63)
After all the morning Thai food, I was ready to get out, walk around, and explore the sights and attractions in Trat town.
Wat Phai Lom
Trat Museum
Canal walk
Khrua Loong Dee (ครัวลุงตี๋) - For dinner, we drove out, about 30 minutes from town to one of the best seafood restaurants I’ve ever been to. It’s like you’re eating in his home, and he has all the giant seafood fresh and ready to be ordered. We asked Uncle to just hook us up with a set meal and he went straight to work. All the seafood was outstanding, both incredibly fresh and the flavors of the cooking was also outstanding. But the highlight of the meal were the mantis shrimp and the giant mud crabs.
Mantis shrimp (กั้งทอดกระเทียม)
Mud crab (ปูดำ)
Blood cockles (หอยแครง)
Crab fried rice (ข้าวผัดปู)
Grilled shrimp (กุ้งเผา)
Grouper sour soup (ปลาเก๋าต้มส้ม)
Grouper 3 flavors (ปลาเก๋าสามรส)
Total price - 3,300 THB ($105.57)

I’ve been to Thailand a couple of time and now can’t stomach the food. Everything had chili, lemongrass and ginger in it. I love the place but find it very frustrating.
Khankir chele
Please objectively review the food and leave your personal tastes out of the review. Thanks
Mark Wien's Rules 👊🔥😎
Hai mark…asian foods are yummy
Best episode as far as my love for SPICY seafood is concerned. Discovered Mark's food traveling videos since the lockdown, got to know the places and food so much more than when I visited years ago, especially Thailand. Now I wished I had done more traveling (and enjoying the food) when there was no Wuhan virus contamination around the world. I'm still working on retiring in Thailand and visit all the places Mark had introduced in his videos.
You can tell on his videos when he don't like the 1st bite and this was one of them.
Great video Mark lots of beautiful location and food 🙂
