DHAKA, BANGLADESH - Welcome to Dhaka, and today we’re going on an ultimate Bangladeshi street food tour of Old Dhaka (known locally as Puran Dhaka). Old Dhaka is known for its amazingly congested streets, energy, being the center of fabric trade, and also for its amazing history of food - especially meats. Along with @Petuk Couple and friends we are eating at the legendary street food spots!
Haji Biriyani (https://goo.gl/maps/LRYRPSkWsSjoUeQV9) - First up we took a cycle rickshaw directly to Haji Biriyani, since 1939, and probably the most famous biryani in all of Old Dhaka. Their biryani is unlike any other biryani I’ve had, fluffy like a could, fragrant from mustard oil and green chilies, and meaty. So good, it’s a place you have to eat when you’re in Dhaka.
Beauty Lacchi and Faluda (https://goo.gl/maps/xrNdQqpu9FoB7ieg7) - Next up, another legendary place for lacchi, similar to a lassi, and faluda. Their lacchi is sweet and sour, like an icy refreshing yogurt drink.
Old Dhaka Breakfast snacks - Next up on this ultimate street food tour we had some local pastries which are popular for breakfast, right out of the tandoor.
Hanif Biryani (https://goo.gl/maps/NJfzW3rpUpvQjPRL9) - Another legendary place for biryani in Old Dhaka is Hanif Biryani. It’s not as fluffy as Haji Biriyani, but has a nice fragrance of rose water.
Bismillah Kabab Ghar (https://goo.gl/maps/EEbLMBV6ArQ7FFga6) - Another highlight of any Bengali street food tour in Old Dhaka is Bismillah Kabab Ghar where they specialize in all sorts of fried kebabs - they are not grilled kebabs as I would typically think, but more like stir fried kebabs full of spices, onions, and green chilies. Their kidney fry and chicken chop were outstanding.
Mama Kabab House - Next up we went for grilled kebabs, an assortment of fire grilled chicken and mutton grilled until crispy.
Grilled Fish - Everyone said it was a first for them to eat something other than meat in Old Dhaka, but the bbq fish was very tasty especially with all the chutneys.
Fresh Juice - You’ll find an abundance of juice stalls in Old Dhaka, and one of the favorites in cashew milk - more like a milkshake of blended cashews.
Fire Paan - Finally to complete this ultimate and extreme Bangladeshi street food tour in Old Dhaka we had fire pan!

Yes, rickshaw ride, oh yeah, and where are we going first racing? We are going to have hajjir biryani today, oh man, that's one of the most legendary biryani spots right, that's the most famous the spot. Yes, the famous part of dhaka awesome. If you ask anybody, they will first tell you to go to hadoop now, oh man, i cannot wait, the biryani is going to be incredible.

Do they allow cars into old dhaka, or just mainly, it's rickshaws mainland shots right? The streets are narrow, too narrow. You have to go it's too hard to drive a car in here. It's very hard, come to a rickshaw traffic jam traffic jam all the way back. Yes, all right.

This journey on the rickshaw is just fascinating with so many things going on in so many different places. Oh looks like we have arrived. This is intense, oh man, that was an intense walk from the corner to the restaurant, but we have arrived all in one piece. This is where we're beginning this tour food tour of old dhaka, one of the most legendary places to eat biryani, and i cannot wait hello mark hello, nice to meet you - here's the local from here.

Yes, so he will take us around. Thank you very much great to be hanging out with you today. Wow since 1939., here comes a fresh batch of the biryani. Oh the steam coming out of that pot of biryani.

Is it's irresistible? Actually, you could not your mouth juices just start to water as they brought out this fresh pot. It's so aromatic it's so fluffy! It's so well oiled! Oh man! What a what a what a place in the world for biryani? Okay: okay smell the that aroma of the spices and kind of like that that sweet aroma, the mustard oil, the fragrant fluffy rice, the meatiness of that mutton, so they go through five or six of the pots per day that smells so good. It's so fluffy! It's so meaty so biryani since 1939. This place is unbelievable, the energy and the action here and one it's not only just the restaurant, but it is literally an adventure, an experience to get here.

Yeah, that's the main thing. Thanks for your life life, it is, it is intense they get here. They serve it up. It's goat, it's rice, it's the mustard oil, so fluffy.

They serve it to you in a traditional leaf bowl. Yes, which is awesome. Actually, they typically serve this for takeaway and then serve you on a plate, but this is definitely the way to eat it in the traditional leaf bowl with green chilies on the side. That's it people just pouring in here.
There's bits of meat in here. There's lots of meat actually on bone. Oh yeah, it is hot wow, it's so hot and it's also so wow. It's incredibly soft wow.

It's like a cloud in your mouth, exactly fluffy clown and then every single grain, you taste the mustard oil. Yes, what every individual grain is? That's the oil i mean flavor for fun here, pasta, that's unbelievable, flavor man and the flavor of that meat, the meatiness of it the spices are actually not very strong but like but they're there. It's like light spice, maybe a bit of pepper in there yeah light spice, but it's like so aromatic unbelievably aromatic it's so soothing to eat. It goes down so easily yeah, that's the most well-oiled rice, i've ever tasted.

You have to take green chilies wow. So good. Oh yeah, that is, it just bursts with flavor that totally contrasts the richness of the rice. There's a little bit of lime.

You can squeeze a little bit of lime. That is the combination right there and then with that acid of the lime juice. That's good too, because it is rich. Actually, the rice yeah, it's rich, it's it's fluffy and it feels like a cloud in your mouth, but you can tell that it's hearty.

It will give you some energy. You definitely have to have this. This is a must to eat, you have to yes, it's an absolute must, and this is definitely a unique style of biryani that i've never tried before. No, no i've never tried it before anymore.

Like many people tried to copy this beauty concept, oh it unbelievable. Like a cloud in your house, thank you. Thank you. So the biryani was absolutely incredible.

We are walking down the street to our next place, which is where we're going to have a famous place for lassie. This is the most famous nachi in dhaka. Okay and whoever comes here after having the biryani, you have to come here, it's like refreshments, okay, oh he transfers them over. You know this is so good, so good, so good donna, butt all right! Razif here we go here, we go.

Is it? I think it's buttermilk right: it's yogurt, yogurt yeah. It's a little bit sweet and sour. He adds in all those liquids and then just gently the syrups and then just gently whips it up. So it's a little bit foamy yeah yeah.

It's like a sweet drinking yogurt. Yes, very good, pretty good and there's another one. You want to try lemonade, yeah sure they have a lemonade too. Oh yeah, we got ta.

Try that oh yeah so mark. How are you so much action everywhere? Thank you very much. Oh thank you! So much! Oh! That's refreshing, yeah, that's so refreshing yeah! It is very refreshing hectic there. You have to have this yeah or you can see somebody just like in the hecticness in the crowdedness just stopping by for a drink on the way like shrug it down and keep going.
Yes, right very good man, it is just everything is exciting. I don't think you'll find anywhere in the world that has as much going on per square meter in the entire world next spot. Yes, let's do it very famous from puran dhaka. It's called pakorkani yeah.

It's kind of a biscuit, and this has two flavors, which is one sweet and one non-sweet. So this is the outside. Yes, literally, this is a closet on the side of the road, with a huge clay oven in the center. Where he's making these snacks they're rolling them out down there they're baking them here, there's coals down there.

Oh man, it's like warm back here, but this is what an innovative stall right here in the corner. Are you guys? Okay back there yeah safe, safe, safe safety, normally kind of like cookies, but it's like a flaky cookie, yeah yeah, it's good, though oh man, it's very hot yeah freshly made freshly made man. I love the layers. This type of poop isn't anywhere.

Oh sweet. One is delicious, it's really good. I like the sweet one okay, so this is the salty version. Yeah, it's the salty version.

We got totally different picture yeah, that's like a cracker, yeah yeah and that's the morning breakfast of dhaka morning, breakfast of dhaka they like to eat. You can either eat the sweet or the salty version. Yes, okay, hey! How are you man? How are you yes? Yes, how are you nice to meet you nice to meet you nice to meet you? It tastes like a thick saltine, cracker yeah, that's what it tastes like! Oh, it's, wonderful and it's like just incredibly freshly baked homemade and it's so flaky again. It's so fragrant! It's meaty, it's very meaty, smelling yeah and it's also goat, probably all right.

Let's move in! Oh again, it's so tender! Oh, it's so fluffy, again melt in your mouth. You can feel that it's going to melt in your mouth, you can feel that rose water in it. Oh yeah, it's very fragrant. The rose water, that's what it is.

Okay again, the rice is fluffy. You taste like almost a little bit of a clove flavor wow. This is as not as fluffy as the hadith, not as lovely yeah. It has different flavor than the one yeah.

It's a different aroma crunch it all down. Oh the green chili is a must it's mandatory. Thank you, and so this is a yogurt drink yeah. This is a yogurt building, wow wow, that is thick.

That's like a milkshake, almost spicy, but then you taste the spices in there yeah the masala yeah, the coriander in there. That is rich too wow that is yeah um, that is a nice carrot, complements the whole thing it does yeah. It does, because you've got more flavor. You cannot have more honey wow, that's that is unique.

That is delicious. Okay back to that biryani, it's not too heavy, but it's not too light. Yes and it's like kind of coffee, it's kind of like a medium grain yeah, but fluffy very fluffy, but not dry man, there's just food everywhere. In old daca we've got a mountain of whoa.
I've got a face full of kidney. This is mutton kidney. They call it a kebab, but it's more like a fry of kidney and onions and spices that just simmers down into a sauce. Oh that's a lot of kidney.

Oh, he just massages that in it's soupy, it's turning soupy until that kidney just completely melts all the oil in there, the spices and then moving over to the next window. Kitchen he's frying up some chicken chop and some beef chop, another food that you have to eat when you come to old, daca, all right. So basically it's a chicken cutlet or a beef cutlet which it looks like it's been cut flat so that it can fry easier mixed with a variety of spices. Then shallow, fried in oil until crispy and you price it fast too.

So it's just crispy on the edges. It's gon na remain juicy on the inside. I can't wait to see what kind of spices they've marinated it in and that smells incredible. So this place is really famous for all sorts of kebabs and meats and things okay.

They are exporting in this area. I mean they are also famous in this area uh, so they always fill this type of chops and oily foods, and we got here. We got here at the perfect time because it's kind of like before they're opening so they're, making everything fresh so we're getting to see the process of everything that they're making next he's frying up. The beef boti kebab just wow he just he just poured on a bag full of mountain of onions, just a volcanic flaming pan of beef oil, onions, green chilies.

It smells so good, it's so aromatic, and he just works that in stirring it releasing the juices the oils everything is going to caramelize. So while the beef is still frying, we've stopped here because uncle is making it's called mata mata. We saw him fresh. He arrived here and he got this milk, he squeezed some of the cheese, and he makes a beverage here with a little bit of salt, a little bit of lime juice and some of that fresh buttermilk and he's extremely popular.

He just arrived five minutes ago and all of a sudden he had people coming to him. Wow, that's like drinking cottage cheese; well, that's delicious, so rich and foamy and creamy with that lime juice with that saltiness. Oh hello, recipe cheers cheers! This is good straight up. Like a cheese beverage, but it's heavy and rich at the same time, okay, the beef should be ready.

We're gon na start eating the kebabs, so i think we first start with this one. Okay, this is the beef beef bottle beef boutique, but this is an amazing spread. We got all of their proteins, plus the papaya salad and you eat it, along with the paratha right for sure. Okay with the paratha with the burger okay yeah, we have to start with that that beef boutique that's what we saw him, making the whole process simmering down that beef in that, like volcanic oil, green chilies, onions, wow that melts in your mouth, yeah, the freshness of The green chilies and all those onions in there yeah, onions, they're, so sweet yeah and they've just melted down into the beef all the different masalas in there.
We saw him making this as well brain fry making. Sure you get a piece of green chili in every bite and some of those onions, it's just so creamy and so cheesy with that spice blend and again the green chilies and the onions yeah. It's like everything. Every recipe has green chilies and onions yeah.

That makes it so good, i think the masala they put is a little bit different than the one yeah, maybe a little bit more cinnamon and cardamom in there yeah that really outstanding okay. I cannot wait to try that chicken chop - oh it's so crispy that batter! Oh, this one is hot yeah. I might go in with a fork. It's so crispy, it's so hot! This one came right out of the oil.

They gave us a fresh one and then it's coated in that that masala plus, that that batter a chicken cutlet plus fried chicken all in one yeah with so much more spice and flavor yeah, that's just like crispy. You cannot go back to eating regular, fried chicken. After this yeah, okay, i think i want to. Can we chase that with that the oiliness? I want to change that with some of the papaya salad.

Oh, that is amazing, all the tamarind. So that's shredded green papaya, so it has an amazing crunch to it and then that tamarind makes it so tart and sweet and oniony and the spices in there yeah. Actually, we eat this thing because uh to reset out this one, you know when you have this thing and then you set this back then this one yeah and something you have something rich and then you have something that refreshes your mouth. At the same time, that's really good.

We've got the last thing here, which is the kidney mutton, kidney chili with the jelly wow yeah; okay, oh wow. Okay, that's one of the dishes here that you have to get this is so good. The paste of masalas and onions in there and the aftertaste of it is even bigger. You know when you take the first bite it feels different and when the comes time and the flavor actually develops in your mouth you're right yeah, the flavor keeps building yeah and you got like a little bit of that.

Meaty meaty aftertaste that irony aftertaste from the kidneys yeah, it's all good, all good, but that kidney wow. This is the winner. Oh green, chili, okay, beef top is awesome too. It's very thin.

Yes, it's very thin and then again coated in that batter with all the spices it's cooked yeah. It is such a contrast of flavors and just like completely cools your mouth down and like washes down the greasiness. We are full of more meat chops and all those different kebabs and fries another kebab, another kebab. Yes still later, okay, another kebab, this one man, the grilled meat, okay, but we're going to continue with this bungalow street food tour in old dhaka and we're moving on from here into the night again on the busy highway in old dhaka.
This one is called broke above i mama the aroma of that meat. Wow we've got a few different kebabs. All grilled over fire served with bread served with salad. Let's start with the chicken malaika, there's almost a crust and a breading around it from the yogurt, and he he sprinkles on at the end, they sprinkle on a little bit of a masala powder and that's kind of like a garam masala kind of flavor to it.

That day, sprinkled on like cinnamon and mace, maybe yeah i'll, show juicy the mage. I can taste the mace in there and this is paratha. Also. We call it okay whoa.

This is grilled until crisp. Oh, it's crispy. It's so crispy on the outside on the outside and then look at the way it just kind of crumbles on the inside and then finally, the whole chicken, which they call tandoori chicken here, which is like a full piece of chicken which he really like charred on The edges from that fire, sprinkled on that masala, the inside of that oh yeah, it's juicy too again that spice blend that masala that mason clove actually uh. If you move around in bangladesh, you will find this and this new item all in almost every restaurant everywhere.

These two items are like very popular on the go food item. Then you got ta go in with some of that: salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, that's kind of sweet and refreshing and crunchy from the cucumber yeah and almost like some cheese in there or something yogurt yogurt. It has yogurt in it that's what's making it creamy yeah. Before we came on this food tour today they were all telling me we're only eating protein today.

Only meats, no vegetables in old, daca old daca does vegetables do not exist, so we've eaten a lot of meat biryani. It's been outstanding so far and we still have more to eat tonight so right across the street again and we are having fish barbecue yeah. That looks good, oh they've, grilled it into a crispy. They have a little closet, sized dining room back here.

Yes, just counter counter seeding, yes, and that fish looks incredible. They grill it until it's crispy charred on all edges and sides and then served with a variety of chutneys, and would we eat this with bread or just straight fish, just straight fish yeah, let's yeah, we just protein. Only that's hot whoa, oh that barbecue sauce. It really tastes like a barbecue shop yeah they put a lot of barbecue sauce in it.

Oh it's so buttery too yeah. Oh, it's really good! Oh yeah, yeah a little bit of lemon will be really good. I'll. Try! The green okay, this one! Oh, the green onions and the coriander.

Yes, coriander mozzarella. Yes, oh it's awesome! Oh yeah, mandatory item, oh yeah, yeah! Oh, that one is good that one's good and it has that that kind of masala flavor to it yeah. I can't stop it right, it's so it's so juicy. It's addictive, so tasty and so fresh seriously, we're all pretty full.
So we're going to have some juice we're coming to the end of this ultimate old, daca street food tour and some juice. But they said we got to try some juice and specifically some special juice, like some cashew nut juice, which they make all fresh here: cashew nut, milkshake, not dairy based, but cashew nut milk shakes yeah, oh wow. I love that. I love that.

That's just the straight up: creamy really creamy yeah cashew nut blended! Oh i love it yeah! That's amazing! You can't stop drinking no, no way and it's cold too yeah. It's cold, like malta juice like an orange juice. This is a juice, orange juice, orange orange juice. Okay, oh yeah, it's a little bit salty too a little bit salty and a little bit spicy uh.

We call it rock salt, so that's replacing all of our electrolytes. We need some electrolytes after that food tour. Today we started to eat those things. We need all the electrolytes we can get man.

The juice was refreshing and delicious. We're moving right next door to the final thing that is gon na complete this ultimate street food tour of dhaka, and it's gon na be thrilling something i've never done before. How what chocolate sauce? Okay, he lights it on fire! Oh there's! So much going on! There must be 20 ingredients and they're all coming together in your mouth and a fire. The herbs, the spices i'll have to make some bread.

That is the way to end the ultimate street food tour in old daca. Yes, wow wow, that's incredible what a day, amazing friends, amazing people and just incredible food. That's a lot going on in my mouth right now, oh man! This is my first time by the way, youtube yeah, wow, okay, and so that wraps up this entire day, it has been an unbelievable day. This city would not actually function or work if people were not friendly, because people would just be getting frustrated.

It's just so much intensity and energy all happening at the same time. It's just amazing how this many people can coexist in one place at one time, but old daca is a special place. People have huge hearts, and this has just been an eye-opening and a thrilling day in bangladesh, and i couldn't have done it without all of you guys.
